Businesses that used to rely on social media as their primary marketing channel have been reassessing their priorities. What used to be a reliable avenue for brand visibility has become a fiercely competitive arena with little return on investment. Further diminishing visibility for brands are the businesses using AI to produce content at scale and posting multiple times per day.
In 2025, I decided to pivot my marketing strategy by deprioritizing social media. If you’re eager to do the same, this blog is for you. AI has changed the way we shop for products and services and how businesses get discovered. Which means there are new marketing strategies to adopt, including one overlooked benefit of AI: brand visibility.

HOW AI HAS CHANGED CONTENT MARKETING
2020 – 2023: The Ease of Brand Visibility
If you’re one of the many businesses born during the pandemic, you’ll remember how easy it was to market your business back then.
A simple Canva-made logo and Pinterest colour palette were all you needed to make your brand official. At the beginning of the pandemic, small businesses were experiencing success fairly easily which led to a surge of new online businesses.
Then came Instagram Reels. Visibility skyrocketed. You could post a video and reach tens of thousands of people within minutes. (If only it were still like that now.)
This time was so fruitful for entrepreneurship.
2024 – Today: AI Devalues Content Marketing
Fast-forward to today and the landscape has changed entirely.
There are millions of businesses competing for attention
Every industry is crowded
Attention spans are essentially non-existent
AI has dramatically increased content volume
With AI making it easier than ever to push out marketing content at scale, our feeds—and our brains—are being flooded with generative content.
As a result:
People tune it out.
They stop engaging.
They scroll right by.
Because when something, like content creation, becomes easy to do en masse, it loses its value.
AI may have devalued content marketing, but there is one strategy for using AI to increase brand visibility.
IMPROVING BRAND VISIBILITY VIA AI SEARCH RESULTS
Your Intro to Generative Engine Optimization
Every day more people are relying on AI software and AI summaries for fast, specific information. So how do you increase how your brand ranks in AI search results?
Through Generative Engine Optimization, or GEO.
If GEO is new to you, here are the key differences between GEO and SEO:
SEO supports search engines like Google to rank websites.
GEO supports AI in recommending brands.
SEO rewards keyword-rich content.
GEO rewards brand clarity, consistency, and credibility.
Where AI and Branding Work Together for Visibility
Prioritizing your brand foundation is more important than ever. What AI search relies on to recommend your business over another is the credibility and consistency of your digital footprint.
Imagine all of the places your business name exists or is mentioned online. Yes, even those long forgotten about directories. That’s what AI is relying on. Think:
your website
your social profiles
your messaging
your positioning
brand mentions
topical authority

This collective footprint is what trains AI to understand your business. But if your brand foundation is muddy, inconsistent, or unspecific, platforms like Gemini or ChatGPT aren’t going to recommend your business to someone asking for referrals.
And trust me, they are asking. I did so myself not long ago. Instead of manually searching, I asked ChatGPT to recommend white label graphic designers in Canada.
What’s important here isn’t just the result, it’s how the result was generated.
AI didn’t rely on exact-match keywords like “Canadian white label graphic designer.” It relied on consistent signals across the internet that associate certain designers with Canada.
That's how your business gets recommended now.
In the article Why Brand Matters in the Era of AI Discovery, the author writes: “Brand recognition, credibility, and trust have elevated to new levels of importance…”
This is why brand foundation work isn’t optional anymore.
To increase AI brand visibility, your business needs a clear, consistent, and deeply-rooted brand foundation. So where do you even begin?

RECOMMENDED STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE AI BRAND VISIBILITY
1. Build Topical Authority to Improve Your Brand Ranking
Focus your brand messaging and your marketing around a select few topics. AI favours topical authority and specificity reigns supreme.
The goal for building topical authority is to make it easy for AI platforms to associate your brand with those areas of expertise. A strong brand foundation becomes vital to ensure:
Your messaging is cohesive across every platform.
Your topical authority reinforces your positioning.
Your content compounds instead of confuses.
The added benefit for building topical authority? It saves you so much time by giving you parameters to focus and simplify your marketing strategy.
2. Do a Reset to Align Your Brand Online
Chances are your business has been mentioned all over the internet over the years.
social media bios
third-party directories
media features
guest blog posts
podcast interviews
business profiles
Just to list a few.
If these touchpoints say different things about your business, that inconsistency weakens your credibility in the eyes of AI.
One strategy to improve AI brand visibility is to standardize your positioning across every touchpoint. Which requires strategizing your brand foundation. That’s where brand strategy becomes essential—it gives you consistent language that can flex across platforms.
Pro-Tip: Start tracking the various places your brand bios and mentions are. This makes it easier to maintain alignment as your business evolves.

3. Reinforce Your Expertise
If AI favours signals of trust, focus on ways to increase the volume and quality of signals that validate your expertise, especially beyond your own platforms. Think of this as the GEO version of backlinks. Here are strategic ways to build brand mentions that strengthen AI trust:
Earn authority through credible platforms
Pitch yourself as a guest on niche, industry-relevant podcasts
Contribute guest articles to established blogs or publications
Write expert quotes for media platforms (ex: HARO-style opportunities)
Leverage partnerships and collaborations
Co-host workshops or webinars with aligned brands
Collaborate on co-authored content (ex: guides, reports, newsletters)
Participate in expert roundups where multiple professionals contribute insights
Increase third-party validation
Collect and publish testimonials on external platforms, not just your website
Encourage clients to mention your brand when sharing their results
Get featured in case studies, not just publish your own
Secure recognition and credentials
Apply for industry awards
Speak at events or panels (virtual or in-person)
Contribute to educational platforms, courses, or communities
Be referenced, not just visible
Get mentioned in “best of” or “recommended providers” lists
Build relationships with brands who can naturally refer or cite your work
Create original frameworks or concepts that others reference and share
The goal isn’t just visibility, it’s association.
When your brand consistently appears alongside trusted platforms, respected voices, and credible sources, AI begins to recognize your business as a reliable authority worth recommending.
4. Use Your Brand Foundation as Your Anchor
AI has changed how marketing works but it hasn’t changed how branding works. The fundamentals of brand always stay the same.
Your brand is your anchor. It’s the reliable constant that keeps things steady, no matter how the landscape evolves.
When you have a defined brand foundation:
AI outputs reflect your voice and positioning
Your messaging stays cohesive across channels
Your authority compounds over time
Compare the difference:
Using AI without a brand → disjointed, generic output
Using AI with a clear brand anchor → consistent, credible presence
Don’t overlook the incredible benefits that a clear brand foundation gives your business. Your brand is not a short-term tactic. It’s a long-term strategy that builds authority over time.
AVOID THE PATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE
At the end of the day, your fundamental goals as a business are the same: increase sales to increase your impact.
So ask yourself:
Why rely on the same strategies as everyone else?
Why not create a brand experience that’s entirely your own?
Why not look at what everyone else is doing and do the opposite instead*?*
Why not make your brand experience entirely your own?
Here’s why: because one path seems easy and the other seems hard.
The path that seems easy but isn’t: using AI to create more and more content in the hopes of increasing your brand visibility.
The path that seems hard but isn’t: investing a few weeks to develop a clear brand foundation that simplifies your marketing and strengthens your authority.
My business has been given a huge competitive advantage because I’ve been early to adopt these strategies for AI brand visibility.
Consider this your sign to get ahead of the competition. While everyone else is chasing visibility, build the foundation that actually earns it.
Because no matter how much technology evolves, your brand will always be the constant driver of your success.
